There are 5 NBA teams with an actual chance at winning it all next year. Only 5, and 4 are from the Western Conference (Big shock? Of course not).

5. Los Angeles Clippers

Why?

They have three all stars, the best true point guard in the NBA, and plenty of potential role players to do things that JR Smith, Rich pars Jefferson, and Teistan Thompson did this year for the Cavaliers. If the team stays healthy for the first time since they became a power in the West they could be dangerous despite being the fourth best team in their respective conference.

Things that could knock them out of contention?

  • Injuries
  • This hypothetical CP3 trade Lebron wants
  • Chemistry issues
  • Overall team breakup

4. The San Antonio Spurs

Why?

Tim Duncan might not even be ther next year. That’s ok for the Spurs, who have the best coach in the NBA, the best defender (Kawhi Leonard), and more than enough role players ready to fill roles of older guys who used to be stars. Let’s face it, as long as they have coach Pop, the Spurs will be contenders.

Things that could knock them out?

  • Bad offseason
  • Loss of leadership
  • Injuries

3. The Oklahoma City Thunder

Why?

Two things must happen for OKC to have this position next year.

  • KD must return
  • They must stay healthy

They have everything else, the coaching, the talent, the role player, and the superstars. All they need is health, and KD.

Things that could knock them out?

  • health
  • KD departure
  • Chemistry

2.The Defending Champions

Why?

Let’s assume the King stays. Let’s assume Love isn’t traded. Either way, the Cavs are still the second best team on paper. They will win the east as long as they are mostly healthy, and LeBron can do heavy, supernatural lifting in the a Finals, but that alone won’t let them top the dubs in the list.

Things that could knock them out?

  • Bad trade of Love
  • Lebron moves on
  • Injuries

1. the Golden State Warriors

Why?

Kd? Nowitzki? Barnes? (Fill in free agent star) here?  What star will GSW reel in this summer? Nobody knows, but let me be clear: they will sign one. Literally every household name free agent ends up getting asked how he’d like to go to the Warriors, and they all say how much they’d like it. Unlike the Cavs, they don’t have the best player, and for them, that’s ok.

Things that could knock them out?

  • Empty offseason
  • Injuries
  • Loss of identity and confidence
